WHY DO STUDENTS TAKE BIOG 1001/1002?

"The questions Dr. Goodloe provided each week really helped me focus on what I needed to for the exams. The practice prelims helped as well."

"Dr. Goodloe covered a lot of the areas in a clear way, and talked at a good pace so that it was easy to take good notes."

"The office hours and the tutors provided a very supportive environment to ask questions."

"The smaller class environment and subsequently being able to ask questions and the extra repetition of the material greatly helped reinforce concepts I had overlooked."

"The practice exams that Dr. Goodloe would administer and have a discussion session afterwards."

"The descriptions of charts, graphs, and diagrams from the text are great!"

"Extra problems especially about genetics were really helpful."

"Students can freely ask questions. There's more interaction with instructor and students."

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IF I TAKE BIOG 1001/1002?

The purpose of this course is to provide you with additional assistance with your work in BIOG 1101/1102 (not the lab course, BIOG 1103/1104). BIOG 1001/1002 can be taken for one hour of transcript credit (S-U grade option only). BIOG 1001/1002 will meet regularly three times per week at the times and locations listed above. Because substantially the same material will be covered at the three sessions, you will probably choose to attend only one of the three meetings, but you may attend more than one and may switch from one to another from week to week. At these weekly sessions, we focus on the most important topics covered in lecture, using a handout of study questions as one basis for discussion.

Preceding each exam, a practice exam (including a discussion of the test) will be scheduled. Office hours are held in Stimson G-24, from 1 to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 7 to 9:30 p.m., Sunday through Thursday. Any student taking BIOG 1101/1102 may attend the weekly review sessions, exam reviews and office hours. For enrolled students, almost any combination of weekly classes, exam reviews and office hours totaling at least 10 is sufficient to earn an S grade, but one office hour visit is required.
