“The 00 teacher is an amazing and knowledgeable fellow; he really knows his stuff!.”
WHAT CAN I EXPECT IF I TAKE BIO 1005/1006?
The purpose of the LSC supplemental courses for biology majors (autotutorial) is to assist students in mastering the attitudes, information, and skills necessary to succeed in introductory biology for majors at Cornell. Since most of the students in these courses will take upper level biology courses and apply to medical school, emphasis on the essential concepts of biology was stressed, with the following goals in mind:
- assisting students in developing confidence in identifying, learning, and manipulating the essential concepts of biology;
- encouraging student self-direction, especially with respect to approaching their course professors, teaching assistants, and other course personnel;
- instilling in students a dedication to learning biology for its own sake, both here at Cornell and in their post-graduate careers;
- helping students to develop an appreciation for the beauty, complexity, and relevance of biology as it relates to their everyday lives;
- and helping all students using Biology LSC services achieve a significantly higher course grade.
We meet for group sessions twice each week, analyzing and reviewing the material in each unit and laboratory exercise. Participants are encouraged to come to group sessions and office hours with questions about the course material already formulated. We also prepare for the final lab practical and final exam using practice exams and intensive review sessions.
